Katy Pryde, BaCoun. - Parenting Coach & Counsellor

I’m Katy, a parenting coach and counsellor who has ADHD. My deep interest in working with neuro-spicy families stems from my own experiences with raising a family and working in the childcare field. I was always drawn to the kiddos who had typical behavioural challenges or were either ASD or ADHD. These kiddos spoke a different language through their behaviour, and I found myself being able to interpret that language easily. I was to learn why this was the case when I was diagnosed with ADHD at 54. This diagnosis exposed me to a greater understanding of what was behind many of my life’s challenges from being a child through to adulthood. So many ah-ha moments, and with this diagnosis, along with understanding childhood trauma, all the dots were finally joined.

Over a period of 34 years, I have gained valuable experience and skills that enable me to provide exceptional services to families. During this time, I have worked as a childcare educator and director for 16 years, and I have also been a mother to four children. My kids are all grown and living fulfilled lives, leaving me with loads of space to nurture other families with support and guidance. Your experience with me will be filled with encouragement, understanding and safety as we navigate your unique situation together.

My services are specifically tailored to parents and children facing the daily realities of living with ADHD. My approach is informed by a comprehensive understanding of both the clinical aspects of ADHD and its practical impact on family dynamics.

Guided by my core values of empathy, acceptance, unconditional positive regard, and respect for cultural diversity, I strive to create a non-judgmental environment that embraces each individual's unique identities and experiences, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Confidentiality, honesty, and integrity are the pillars of my practice, ensuring that clients feel secure as they embark on their personal growth journey.

Talk soon,

Hello

Katy

Testimonial,

Our family life was overwhelmed by chaos and stress, largely due to the challenges we faced in managing our child's ADHD. The constant struggle to maintain order and understanding within our household was taking its toll on all of us.

This all changed when we started working with Katy. Her expertise in dealing with ADHD, combined with her compassionate and patient approach, brought a significant transformation in our household. Katy equipped us with effective strategies and tools tailored to our child's needs, enabling us to create a more structured and nurturing environment.

One of the most notable changes has been the shift from a stress-filled atmosphere to one of calm and organisation. I personally have experienced a decrease in stress levels, which has profoundly improved my ability to connect with and support my child. The positive and constructive interactions we now have are a testament to the efficacy of Katy's methods.

I highly recommend Katy Pryde to any parent grappling with similar challenges. Her guidance is not just a solution; it’s supportive and encouraging.

Professional Registration

It is important to note that not all counsellors are professionally qualified. In Australia, there are no laws that mandate counsellors or psychotherapists to have qualifications or experience. Therefore, individuals without the necessary training or skills may refer to themselves as counsellors or psychotherapists. This is a concern as an unqualified counsellor can do more harm than good and will not have the correct insurance to protect you are them. ALWAYS seek out a fully qualifed, and registered professional counsellor.

Choose a Registered Counsellor.

A counsellor who holds membership in a reputable professional organization like PACFA must meet rigorous qualifications and participate in continuous professional development and supervision each year to maintain their membership. These stringent standards guarantee that practitioners possess the necessary expertise to assist you.

Seeking assistance from registered and accredited counsellors offers the public an accountability mechanism in case of any issues. Additionally, it is crucial to highlight that registered counsellors are required to carry professional indemnity insurance, ensuring a certain level of protection for you. Conversely, unqualified and unregistered counsellors are ineligible for professional indemnity insurance, potentially leaving you exposed and vulnerable.

Choose a Registered Coach.

Choosing a coach who is registered with the International Coach Federation (ICF) offers a range of significant benefits. ICF registration ensures that the coach adheres to a high standard of professionalism, ethics, and coaching competence. Clients can have confidence in the coach's expertise and qualifications, as ICF registration requires rigorous training and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Working with an ICF-registered coach means accessing a wealth of knowledge and best practices in the coaching industry.

ICF provides a code of ethics that registered coaches must follow, promoting trust, confidentiality, and the well-being of clients. The ICF credential signifies that the coach has demonstrated mastery in coaching skills, allowing clients to feel assured in the coach's ability to facilitate meaningful and transformative experiences. By choosing an ICF-registered coach, clients can expect a high-quality coaching partnership that is focused on their growth, success, and overall well-being.
